Medicine!


The field of medicine includes the study of the human body. Most of the careers in medicine include diagnosing, caring, and treating a patient who has obtained diseases or disorders. Since learning about each and every human body part, its function, illnesses, and treatments are very difficult there are different specialties in this field. With such a vast field the careers are never-ending. Below are a few career options in the field of medicine:


Surgeon: A surgeon is a type of doctor that specializes in treating patients with the help of surgery. There are also sub-specialties after being a surgeon, for example, general surgeon, a neurosurgeon, cardiologist etc. To become a surgeon you need to first need to get an undergraduate degree. Then you will be required to go to medical schools. Though in some countries, (India) you can directly go to the medical school after passing your 12th standard. In India, you will have to give the NEET exam to be able to apply for medical school. After this you will be studying for an additional 3 years, so that you can do your speciality in surgery. Then depending on the field you choose in surgery you have to a further 1-3 years. To be a surgeon, you will be spending, 4 years (undergraduation) + 4 years (medical school) + 3 years (speciality in surgery) +1-3 years (sub-speciality in choosen field = this shows that you have to spend a average of 13 years studying to become a surgeon. Though as mentioned earlier you can be spend less years studying, if you choose to directly go to medical school.


Nurse: A nurse is a healthcare worker. They work in different fields to help treat patients. To become a nurse, you first need to get a nursing degree. After that you will have to get the linsence to become a nurse. There are different kinds of nurses and depending on them you will have to get different linsence. The different types of nurses include lincesed practical nurse, registrated nurse, nurse practitioner, anesthesitic nurse, midwife nurse.


General Physician: A general physiciaan is a doctor that specialises in treating patients from all ages. They are also known as a family doctor. To be a general physician, you first need to get a bachelors degree and then a medical degree. After getting a medical degree you need to do your residencing in a hospital. And then you will officially be able to be a general physician. It is not complusory to have a bachelors degree to do medical school. There are other ways where you can directly go to medical school.


In the field of medicine there are also other career options such as dentist, dermatologist, anesthesiologist, and further fields in surgery. The important skills needed for the field of medicine are:


Communication Skills: It is very important to communicate effectively to your patients and fellow colleges. This is crucial in the field of medicine as you need to be able to communicate information to people.

Problem Solving Skills: It is important that you have the problem solving mindset to be able treat, diagnose patients with different illnesses.


Attention to detail: Paying attention to the minute details will help you diagnose diseases and illness efficiently.


Decision Making: Many of the times, the people in the field of medicine have to make crucial decisions in a minimal amount of time. It is necessary that you have the skills to be able to make a conscious decision.
